Materials

  • lbs boneless sirloin steak cut into ~ 2½ x ¼ inch 'fingers'
  • cups buttermilk
  • 1 egg
  • ½ cup flour
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp dry mustard
  • salt and pepper

For Dredge and frying

  • cups flour
  • 2 tsp garlic powder
  • salt and pepper
  • 3 cups vegetable oil

Instructions

  • Mix together the egg, buttermilk, flour, and seasonings so that the consistency is similar to pancake batter. Add finger steaks and toss to coat. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 2 hours or overnight.
  • Mix together the flour, garlic powder, and salt and pepper. Remove finger steaks from buttermilk mixture, allowing excess to drip off. Dredge in the seasoned flour and place on a baking sheet.
  • In a heavy bottomed pot, add oil and heat until 350℉.
  • Place a few pieces of steak into the hot oil (don't overcrowd the pot). Fry until golden brown, about 5 minutes, flipping halfway through. Once done, remove and place on a paper towel lined plate. Repeat until all are fried.
  • Serve with cocktail sauce, fry sauce, or your favorite condiment.
