Ingredients

For the Russian dressing
  • ¼ cup mayo
  • tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tbsp white onion minced
  • ½ tsp horseradish
  • ¼ tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • salt and pepper to taste
For the rest
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 4 slices rye bread
  • 6 slices Swiss cheese
  • 8 slices deli turkey
  • 1 cup sauerkraut drained
  • ½ cup Russian dressing
Recipe Instructions

  • Make the dressing by combing all ingredients in a small bowl. Taste and add more salt if needed. Set aside.
  • Heat a cast iron skillet over medium low. Liberally spread butter on one side of each slice of bread. Place two pieces of bread butter side down, into the cast iron.
  • On the bread in the cast iron, smear on some dressing. Add 3 slices of Swiss to each and top with 4 slices of turkey. Top with sauerkraut and place other slice of buttered bread on top.
  • Place a tiny splash of water into the skillet and cover with a baking sheet. (This will help the sandwich heat through and melt the cheese). Cook until the one side is golden brown, about 2 minutes. (Check to make sure it doesn't burn). Once golden, flip, and cover again. Cook until golden brown.
  • Remove from the skillet and cut in half. Enjoy, dunking in the remaining Russian dressing.
